Professional experience
Since 2016, James Kurkoske has worked as a private investigator and primarily as a background investigator for several municipalities throughout California. James retired from police service after 27 years, having worked in a wide variety of assignments from patrol to administration. As a sergeant, and later working as a Lieutenant, James investigated numerous internal and external personnel complaints and conducted several complex Internal Affairs investigations related to employee misconduct. He is a P.O.S.T. certified and trained background investigator who has conducted background investigations on civilian volunteers, records clerks, dispatchers, police officers, firefighters, police chiefs, city managers, and corporate executives.
James received a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from California Coast University. He is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI), POST Management School, Role of the Police Chief, and has attended many leadership and command level classes. Lastly, he is a member of the California Licensed Private Investigators Association as well as the California Background Investigators Association, and as such, maintains currency with industry standards and law changes as they occur.
