Professional experience
With a wealth of experience spanning all major units of police departments, Mr. Hauptmann has dedicated his career to law enforcement, from serving as a patrol officer to attaining the position of Chief of Police. Having worked in esteemed agencies such as Cypress, Glendale, and Garden Grove Police Departments, he later assumed the crucial role of Police Chief at the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department. His tenure at Maywood-Cudahy was marked by a transformative effort to rebuild a dysfunctional department, ultimately earning recognition from the Attorney General as a model "best practices" agency for its size.
In addition to his operational roles, Mr. Hauptmann has been a stalwart in education, teaching workplace investigations at California State University, Long Beach, for 30 years. His expertise extends to serving as an expert witness in personnel investigations.
Currently, as the Law Enforcement Consultant to the Office of the City Manager and Community Police Review Commission for the City of Riverside he reviews all citizen complaint investigations, and Officer Involved Death Cases ensuring these investigations adhere to high standards of clarity, thoroughness, and fairness. Mr. Hauptmann's commitment to excellence is further evident in his co-authorship of the California Peace Officers Association Internal Affairs Manual and contributions to the Garden Grove Police Department Supervisors Manual, solidifying his legacy in shaping law enforcement practices.
